Murray-Darling report clinical and damning: NSW Opposition

January 31, 2019. NSW Opposition Leader Michael Daley speaking to media in Sydney about a the release of a report into the Murray-Darling Basin. Daley says the South Australia-based commission's report is "surgical and damning" in its assessment of the NSW government and, in particular, NSW Water Minister Niall Blair handling of the river system. He says, calls for Blair's "head" are too late, instead urging voters to kick the government out at the next election, also calling for an in-depth investigation into the management of the river system. Some two tonnes of dead fish have been scooped out of the Darling River in NSW's far west in recent days as locals, irrigators and politicians argue over who's to blame for the catastrophe. The South Australia-based commission's report, released on Thursday, found the Murray-Darling Basin Authority was "unwilling or incapable of acting lawfully". The report found river allotments were driven by politics and accused the basin authority board of maladministration over its disregard for science. (AAP Video/Andrew Leeson)
