Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO James Pearson says Labor's move to increase the wages of childcare workers is 'very concerning.' On Sunday, Labor announced early childcare educators would get a taxpayer funded wage increase of more than $11,000 over eight years. Childcare workers are among the lowest income earners, with full time employees on average earning $45,000 per year. The Coalition has dismissed the plan, with Education Minister Dan Tehan calling the policy 'a bribe.' Mr Pearson told Sky News the government should not intervene in the private sector. He says only Fair Work Commission has the remit to determine whether low paid workers can secure a pay rise.
