New US ambassador to Australia, Arthur B. Culvahouse, has paid a visit to the US Marines based at Robertson Barracks in Darwin. It follows an announcement that the American military presence in Australia will grow amid rising tensions in the Indo-Pacific. At least 2,500 US marines will be based in the Top End this year, with the number expected to grow further.
