The long-awaited operation to re-enter a New Zealand mine where an explosion killed 29 men nearly a decade ago has been suspended due to safety concerns. A search team had been due to enter the Pike River coal mine on Friday, but the NZ government says the operation has been temporarily suspended. In November 2010, two methane blasts tore through the Pike River Mine, on the South Island's west coast, killing all but two of those inside. A search team was scheduled to enter the coal mine's drift on Friday for the first time since 2011, ending years of struggle by families to reopen the site to find remains.
