Several passengers on board a Russian plane that burst into flames mid-flight have been criticised after images showed they had taken their luggage while evacuating. At least 41 people were killed after fire engulfed a Russian passenger plane on Sunday, including two children and a member of the cabin crew. While 33 people managed to escape the devastating fire, aviation experts believe the death toll could have been lower had passengers left the plane without their bags. Aviation expert Captain Byron Bailey says the fact that people paused to take their hand luggage during an emergency evacuation ‘needs to be looked at from a criminal point of view’, as aviation law is explicit in that baggage must be left behind.
