Voters ‘cynical’ of Labor’s spending-spree

Editor-at-Large at the Australian Paul Kelly says the electorate is becoming ‘cynical’ and ‘fatigued’ by Labor’s big-spending policies. The Opposition has announced around $60 billion worth of spending commitments in the federal campaign so far, with most funds directed towards infrastructure, climate change mitigation policies and healthcare. Mr Kelly says despite this, Labor’s primary vote has stagnated during the election campaign, hovering at around 36 per cent according to the latest Newspoll. He told Sky News that this cynicism extends to the Coalition as well, with many voters sceptical the government will deliver on its tax cut promises.
