More than a dozen reported bashings and knife-point robberies targeted at foreign students in less than three weeks across Melbourne, have prompted a safety wake-up call. Federal Education Minister Dan Tehan is making it a priority to improve the safety of students. About 690,000 international students studied in Australia in 2018.
