Fire investigators are attempting to determine whether heaters sparked a lethal blaze which has devastated a small town in the New South Wales Hunter Region. Neighbours described hearing screams and breaking glass in the early hours of Wednesday morning, before discovering the Singleton home well alight. First responders managed to rescue a mother and her eight-year-old daughter from the Singleton inferno but five-year-old twin girls and an 11-year-old boy could not be saved.
