New South Wales Farmers Association CEO Peter Arkle says ‘we’ve still got 90 per cent of the state in some level of drought declaration and 30 per cent in severe drought’. Mr Arkle told Sky News on Monday that many farmers across the state ‘have sold a lot of their stock and many haven’t been able to get crops in the ground … so we’re still in a really difficult situation’. Mr Arkle says the NSW Farmers Association is looking for support from the banks because ‘we’ve got farmers with no income that are getting local government rates bills up 10 per cent on last year’. ‘The long-term trajectory for agriculture is a positive one, we just need a chance to get on with business and keep growing this important industry for Australia,’ he says.
