Demonstrators gathered outside the Queensland Parliament in Brisbane on August 6 to demand action on climate change, as part of activist group Extinction Rebellion’s Rebellion Day. A number of people were arrested at the demonstration after protesters shut down roads in the central business district, local media reported. Police issued multiple alerts warning motorists of disruptions during peak hour traffic due to the protests. “We are in the 6th Mass Extinction Event of our planet, the science tells us that we must act immediately if we are to survive as a species on this planet,” Extinction Rebellion said in a post about the protest.
