Gender equality advocates are calling for change with a new report finding discrimination in the workplace is the biggest factor behind the persistent gap between men and women's wages. The report by KPMG shows the national difference between male and female average full-time weekly earnings remains at around 14 per cent or $241. Almost 40 per cent of the gender pay gap is attributable to women taking on a greater share of unpaid caring responsibilities, more career breaks and a higher share of part-time work. The report found halving the gender pay gap and stopping gender discrimination would increase economic growth in Australia by $60 billion by the year 2038.
