‘Australian wages are in the doldrums’

Labor MP Andrew Leigh says “Australian wages are in the doldrums” which is “flowing through to spending”. Mr Leigh told Sky News the government “has been claiming the Australian economy’s issues are all caused by people overseas, but indeed the iron ore price has supported the budget”. Mr Leigh said “Labor supports a surplus”, and it is “inappropriate for the government to be holding back on accelerated depreciation”. “There is a real problem in the Australian economy with wages…It is the beginning of December, and it is meant to be our best spending season”, he said on Monday.
