Yang Hengjun detention in China ‘unacceptable’

Foreign Minister Marise Payne says she is "very concerned" over the treatment of an Australian citizen, who remains held in detention in China. Yang Hengjun, who became an Australian citizen in 2002, was arrested in August on suspicion of espionage, seven months after he was originally detained. Lawyers for Dr Yang said he has been isolated, subjected to daily interrogations and cut off from family and legal representation. The Australian government said the conditions of his detention are "unacceptable" and the foreign minister said she has made “repeated requests to the Chinese authorities for an explanation of the charges against Dr Yang”.
