Shutting down wet markets ‘won’t stop risk’ of virus

Griffith University Senior Research Fellow Dr Duan Biggs says calls to shut down all wet markets are "understandable" but would not likely "avoid this type of risk in future". "My focus of work has been on the regulation and management of the wildlife trade and it's complex. There are lots of intricacies," Dr Biggs said. "We need to work together with different authorities and importantly the people affected by these markets and the millions of livelihoods affected by the closure of these markets."
