Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar says a backbench push for the early phase-out of JobKeeper is “a bit premature”. Liberal backbencher Jason Falinksi has been vocal on the issue, insisting the wage scheme should be phased out as children return to the classroom. But Mr Sukkar insisted that would not be the case and told Sky News no action will be taken until Treasury assesses the program in June. “I think its a bit premature to be talking about that. I know there are about 800,000 businesses that have enthusiastically enrolled in the scheme … so its been an absolute lifeline … but we’re six weeks into it,” he said. When asked about the backbencher's call, Mr Sukkar said he was “entitled to raise his views” but parliament agreed it would be a six-month program.
