The former ASIO director-general is calling for a review of Australia’s laboratories over safety concerns after it was revealed there have been at least 37 biosecurity breaches in labs since 2013. In 2016, a breach exposed 30 staff during CSIRO experiments involving toxic bacteria pathogen. Dennis Richardson said he believed that “everyone would hope that part of the review in respect of COVID-19 would be looking at the security of facilities globally.”
