Protesters demonstrating against the police killing of George Floyd gathered at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on the evening of May 29, video taken from a building nearby shows. Footage taken on the ground showed a heavy law enforcement presence. Phalanxes of New York Police Department officers, some on bicycles, could be seen in several locations. Authorities had set up metal barriers in front of the Barclays Center. Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who was seen pinning Floyd to the ground amid his cries of “I can’t breathe,” was arrested on third-degree murder and manslaughter charges on Friday.
