Australia is threatening citizens returning from India with jail and it is the first time it has been illegal for Australian citizens to enter the country. This rule comes into effect from Monday morning and it means anyone, including citizens, cannot enter Australia if they have been to India in the past 14 days. The rule closes a loophole which was in effect where stranded Australians in India could travel to nearby countries and then to Australia. Health Minister Greg Hunt said those found guilty of breaking the travel ban could be fined $66,600, five years imprisonment, or both.
