High Wind Shuts Down Washoe Valley Highways

Highways in western Nevada remained closed on Tuesday morning, January 4, as high winds and ice made travel dangerous. Interstate 580 and US Route 395 were closed in Washoe Valley due to the conditions, the sheriff’s office said on Tuesday morning. Officials said the Nevada Department of Transportation would reassess the situation at 7 am. The National Weather Service (NWS) reported a peak gust of 87 mph near Galena Creek at 5:27 pm. A high wind warning was in effect through Tuesday. Credit: Washoe County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
