Novak Djokovic detained at Melbourne Airport after visa mix-up

Novak Djokovic is being held at Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport over a visa mix-up as his Australian Open campaign is thrown into doubt. This comes after the state government confirmed it will not support his visa application. The World Number One arrived in Melbourne around 11 o'clock last night. One of the Nine newspapers reports he entered the country on a visa that does not permit medical exemptions for being unvaccinated. Djokovic is believed to be relying on the fact he had COVID within the past six months and was granted approval to compete by Tennis Australia yesterday. But a request by Border Force officials for the Victorian government to sponsor his application has been rejected. Sky News Australia discussed the issue with Fox Sports presenter Jim Callinan.
