China’s President Xi Jinping now has a group of “yes men” surrounding him, after promoting "loyalists” to the Politburo Standing Committee, former DFAT Australia-China Council scholar Andrew Phelan says. Mr Xi recently secured his place as China's longest-serving president since revolutionary leader Mao Zedong, after the Communist Party confirmed he will serve a third term. “The danger is now that he has really got a group of ‘yes men’ … or groupthink surrounding him,” Mr Phelan told Sky News Australia.
