Riot Police Confront Protesters at Bosnia Rally After Student Death

Dozens of riot police confronted citizens protesting in Bosnia’s capital Banja Luka on December 30 after the mysterious death of a 21-year-old. Police forced back protesters who were marching through the city square demanding the resignation of Bosnian Serb Interior pinister Dragan Lukac and top police officials over the March death of David Dragicevic. Dragicevic’s father, Davor Dragicevic, has inspired the protests with his quest for answers around the circumstances of his son’s death. Dragicevic has said he will not leave the city’s main square until police officers involved in his son’s case resign or are fired. A group of protesters who remained after the rally ended clashed with police. Local media reported several protesters were arrested. Police initially said Dragicevic’s son’s death was a suicide, but the young student’s family insists he was killed. Prosecutors opened a homicide investigation that is still underway, ABC reported.
