The National Weather Service issued flood watch warnings for parts of the Midwest, on May 1, in anticipation of thunderstorms in the region. “A Flash Flood Watch was issued for much of southeast Iowa, northwest Illinois and northeast Missouri through Thursday afternoon,” the NWS said in a tweet adding that showers over already wet ground and high river levels could lead to flooding. The warnings followed a flash flood that inundated downtown Davenport, Iowa, on April 30, after a temporary barrier designed to hold back water from the Mississippi River failed.
