The Daily Telegraph's Jamie Pandaram says Israel Folau refused to accept a peace treaty from Rugby Australia due to his ‘genuine religious beliefs.’ The comments come after The Sunday Telegraph revealed Rugby Australia told the 30-year-old fullback it would not tear up his contract if he took down a social media post denigrating homosexuals and others. Mr Folau did not take the post down after his father Eni warned him not to, prompting Rugby Australia to tear up his lucrative four-year contract. Rugby Australia argues Mr Folau's conduct on social media breached his contract. Mr Pandaram told Sky News that despite the cost to his career, Mr Folau is ‘very resolute’ in his conservative religious beliefs. He says the furore has caused ‘enormous damage to the game of rugby.’ Image: News Corp Australia
