The most anticipated international leaders’ summit since the financial crisis is set to be held in Osaka at the end of the week, hosted by Japan. US President Donald Trump and Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping are expected to meet on the G20 sidelines to come up with a deal to end their spiralling trade war, the effects of which are being felt in Australia and across the world. Australia National University’s Dr Shiro Armstrong says the whole world is waiting to see the pair ‘come to a truce or a deal, or, if not, we might be looking at an escalated trade war’. ‘Already we’ve seen Huawei banned from participating in the US, so there could be a tech war or a new coal war,’ he says.
