Former MP Dr Kerryn Phelps says there is no question that indefinite offshore detention is 'causing a lot of the damage' that we see in people who are needing to be transferred to Australia. Speaking to Sky News, Ms Phelps says there have been 30 people who have been transferred under the new medevac laws, which allow refugees and asylum seekers to be transferred to Australia without personal consultation with Australian doctors. Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton says 'people of bad character' have been allowed in to Australia under the laws, and has called on Parliament to repeal them. Ms Phelps says Mr Dutton has used ‘the bad character excuse’ as a reason to stop people getting appropriate medical treatment. Image: News Corp Australia
