Former Labor frontbencher Stephen Conroy says his party made a huge mistake for ‘not talking up coal’ ahead of the federal election, adding it was ‘poor positioning by Labor, we got caught and we paid a terrible price’. Mr Conroy says ‘Australia could supply coal for a long time and still meet its climate objectives’, admitting to Sky News that Labor was ‘caught flat footed on this issue’. ‘Labor allowed itself to be positioned alongside the anti-development, anti-growth, anti-jobs Greens Party and that left Labor vulnerable to a scare campaign,’ Mr Conroy says.
