Cardinal George Pell has arrived at Victoria’s Supreme Court to appeal his conviction for sex crimes against two young boys. Pell has been locked up in solitary confinement for the past 98 days since being found guilty of sexually abusing two 13-year-old choir boys when he was archbishop of Melbourne, in the 1990s. The 77-year-old was sentenced to six years in jail with a non-parole period of three years and eight months. His legal team will on Wednesday argue three grounds of appeal, including that the jury reached an unreasonable verdict given it could not have found him guilty beyond reasonable doubt. Pell continues to maintain his innocence.
