US President Donald Trump said if his administration didn’t take action against the coronavirus, 2.2 million Americans could have died - instead projected a possible 100,000 to 200,000 deaths. This comes after the country’s top infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci warned up to 200,000 people could die from COVID-19 following the government’s latest measures - a sharp decrease from original projections without action. “Think of the number, 2.2 million if we did nothing, if we didn’t do the distancing,” Mr Trump said at a press conference. “When I heard the number today I felt even better about what we did, with the $2.2 trillion (stimulus package)." Mr Trump added “if we could hold that down to 100,000 - it’s a horrible number; maybe even less”. President Trump disputed claims he said the country would be "reopened" by Easter and instead said it was nothing more than "aspiration". Image: AP
