The National Cabinet in considering ways to provide rent relief with COVID-19 pushing thousands of Australians out of work and overturning entire industries. Landlords are expected to receive a tax break if they provide tenants with a renters’ holiday. Finance Minister Mathias Cormann on Friday morning said “tenancies are a matter in Australia regulated at a state level, but this is a matter that, through the National Cabinet, the prime minister and premiers and chief ministers have turned their mind to”. “I would expect there will be announcements in relation to this in the not-too-distant future,” he said.
