Businesses are increasingly understanding that it is their interest to run “caring and empathetic” organisations, according to the CEO of Atlassian Mike Cannon-Brooke. Research commissioned by Sydney-based software company Atlassian Corporation found 69 per cent of employees believed businesses should be equally concerned with its societal impact as with its bottom line. The survey also found 78 per cent of respondents believed their company should take full responsibility for its environmental impact. Mr Cannon-Brooke told Sky News companies will increasingly have to compete for workers who expect their employers to share “some of their values”. “We are trying to focus on long-term attitudes here: will more work move into the knowledge work? Yes.” "In the long term will those employees be more mobile? Yes. Does this mean companies will have to compete for that talent? Yes. "In the tech industry we are in the forefront of this with incredibly mobile workforces that are incredibly competed for and that’s why you see the tech industry being the most progressive on these social, environmental and community causes.”
