Agriculture Minister David Littleproud says “Australians need to understand” that dairy farmers do not receive their full allocated cut from milk sales and measures must be put in place to protect the future of the industry. Mr Littleproud said big supermarkets “have a moral responsibility to ensure that we have a dairy industry after COVID-19 and in the future”. “I’m asking for time; time for the government to be able to put in place reforms that will ensure the survival of the dairy industry, that will ensure they and Australian consumers can continue to enjoy dairy products,” he said. “I don’t want to see Australians get to a point where we’re importing fresh milk to a point where we have to rely on another nation to supply that. “I’m asking the supermarkets and processors to get on board and do something about it, they’ve proven they’ve got a mechanism before to do it, they can simply do the job now.” Image: News Corp Australia
