Health system ‘prepared for second wave’ of coronavirus cases

Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer Alison McMillan says “we are prepared should we see a second wave” of coronavirus cases. “We’ve got an enormous capacity to test now and we’re testing significant numbers every day,” she said. “We have done huge amounts of work to expand our hospital system, particularly because of what we’ve seen overseas with the demand on intensive care requirements. “We have additional trained nurses ready if we need to call on them and an enormous amount of equipment. “So we’re prepared but it’s not something we want o see if we can avoid it.” Image: Getty
