Social media platform TikTok will withdraw from Hong Kong after China imposed a controversial security law on the territory. Mainland China passed a new national security law, criminalising secession, subversion of state power, terrorism and conspiring with foreign powers. A spokesperson for TikTok said the app would be removed from Hong Kong app stores within days. Despite being Chinese-owned, TikTok is unavailable in mainland China. The app is already banned in India over privacy fears and there are calls for Australia to follow suit.
