Chief of Army Lieutenant General Rick Burr says this Anzac Day we pay tribute to the sacrifice and service of those on the ground in Afghanistan, our longest war. US President Joe Biden announced the country will withdraw the last of its troops by September 11 – marking 20 years since the start of the war. “This was a long and difficult war and as we welcome them home, as we finish the military commitment after 20 years – this Anzac Day is a special opportunity where we can recognise the service of all those that have served in Afghanistan in particular,” Lieutenant General Burr told Sky News. “They should all be very proud of what they did individually to try and make a difference on the ground.”
