The Alisal Fire burning in Santa Barbara County grew past 17,000 acres, authorities reported on Saturday, October 16. This footage, released by the Santa Barbara Fire Department, shows a plane dropping flame retardant on Friday near the western reaches of the fire. Officials ordered evacuations this week near where the fire was burning, to the west of the City of Santa Barbara. Other areas were put under evacuation warnings. As of Saturday morning, 1,747 personnel were involved in fighting the fire, which began burning on October 11 and is at 50 percent containment.
