Australia Post braces for a difficult holiday period due to COVID-19 measures

The new Australia Post Chief Executive Paul Graham says work has been limited by fewer flights carrying mail while social distancing and necessary protocols cut his workforce's productivity. "We've had, at times, when people have had to go into isolation, because we've had one case at a site, up to 800 of our team members in isolation," Mr Graham said. "You can't run a business like ours when you've got those disruptions. "Even when we don't have a case on-site, we're still losing about 20 per cent productivity because of the social distancing, the other necessary protocols we have to put in place." Communications Minister Paul Fletcher also spoke to Sunday Agenda and said Australia Post had been facing unprecedented spikes in parcel delivery during the pandemic. "Qantas and Virgin networks running at a very small percentage of their normal level," he said. "Then you've got the requirements that the whole team faces in terms of things like if there's a case in a facility then people need to isolate, so that's having significant impacts."
