Leopard Cub Receives Blood Transfusion at Santa Barbara Zoo

An Amur leopard cub received a blood transfusion at the Santa Barbara Zoo in California after she became anemic, footage posted on October 20 shows. The zoo said that a veterinary team noticed that the cub, called Marta, had a critically low level of red blood cells. Marta was given a blood transfusion from her mother, Ajax, after her red-blood cell count continued to decline, the zoo said. The cub’s condition was described as stable on October 20, with the zoo adding Marta was “active and feisty once again”. The Amur leopard is critically endangered, with about 84 adults in the wild, according to the World Wide Fund for Nature. Credit: Santa Barbara Zoo via Storyful
