NSW schools open and children return with ‘COVID safe measures’ in place

Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Sarah Mitchell says it is “well and truly time” students come back to the classroom for the first day of face-to-face learning after months of being taught online. On Monday, Kindergarten, Year 1, and Year 12 will all return back to the classroom following NSW’s achievement of reaching 80 per cent double dose milestone over the weekend. “Obviously, what we need to do is make sure that’s in a COVID safe way so that’s why we’ve got things like vaccination of all our staff, good ventilation in all our classrooms, and also some COVID safe measures,” Ms Mitchell told Sky News Australia. “So, you know, not mixing year groups, not having extra visitors on site, plenty of hand hygiene and cleaning. “It will be a little different to school as we know it but we’re back and I think that’s the most important thing.” Ms Mitchell said they are working with health to determine whether rapid antigen test for COVID will be implemented into a school setting.
