Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says Prime Minister Scott Morrison showed his Cabinet polling last week which showed 80 per cent support for a net zero by 2050 emissions target. "That support barely dropped when respondents heard that meeting the target would cost them an extra $300 a year, but it dropped significantly when they heard the target would cost them $500 per year," he said on Sunday Agenda. "The PM apparently making the point that if the government committed to a net zero target by 2050, it needed to show voters it would not cost them too much. "The net zero proposal, or elements of it, to be shown by Energy Minister Angus Taylor to the Nationals party room this afternoon but don't expect a decision then. "It sounds like we will have rolling party room meetings all week before the PM feels he can land this and announce it. "The speculation is that Energy Minister Angus Taylor wanted to announce a plan to get to net zero rather than a target for net zero but the PM favours a target. "In these circumstances, you would expect the PM to win the argument. But a lot depends on the Nationals."
