Landmark defence deal for Australia and Japan

Australia and Japan are set to sign a landmark defence pact to upgrade their military cooperation. The Reciprocal Access Agreement will facilitate more joint exercises, faster deployments and improve the ability for both forces to undertake operations together. It's the first deal of its kind that Japan will finalise with another nation as Tokyo and Canberra move to strengthen regional security in the wake of tensions in the Indo-Pacific. Prime Minister Scott Morrison has hailed the move as a "pivotal moment" in Japanese-Australian relations. Both leaders are expected to hold a virtual meeting to sign the agreement.
