An elderly Frenchman has begun floating across the Atlantic in a custom-designed, self-sufficient barrel using nothing but ocean currents to propel his vessel. Jean-Jacques Savin will drop markers in the ocean throughout his three-month journey to help oceanographers better understand currents in the seas. The 71-year-old will travel more than 4,000 kilometres from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean.
