Search and rescue efforts continued on December 28, after a deadly tsunami swept the Sunda Strait coastal provinces of Banten and Lampung the previous week. The tsunami, believed to have been caused by an underwater landslide triggered by a volcanic eruption on the Krakatoa island chain, killed more than 500 people and displaced over 20,000, the Jakarta Post reported. This footage was shared on December 29 by the Indonesian Red Cross, who said they were faced difficulty accessing remote areas to help those affected by the disaster.
