A record ninth line honours victory for Wild Oats XI has been confirmed after a protest from Sydney to Hobart race officials was dismissed. A protest was lodged by the Race Committee after it discovered Wild Oats' Automatic Identification System had not been activated as per the rules. Cruising Yacht Club of Australia Commodore Paul Billingham says the system is a navigation and safety instrument only, and not a tool to enhance performance. Last year, a protest saw Wild Oats demoted from first to second after almost colliding with Comanche shortly after the start of the race. Image: News Corp Australia
