New laws will be introduced in parliament on Thursday to keep 'high-risk' terrorists behind bars on a continued detention order. The laws are designed to close a loophole for terrorists and their supporters who are jailed for non-terror offences and due for release. Under the new laws, up to 11 'high risk' terrorists who were due for release in the next 18 months will stay behind bars due to their potential threat to public safety. National Party MP Bridget McKenzie welcomed the new laws, telling Sky News, 'I think it 's a recognition that we can't always have confidence that people who leave the prison system are adequately rehabilitated, particularly when it comes to terrorist offences.'
