GDP figures ‘should be a wake-up call for the govt’

Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers says the quarter on quarter GDP growth figures due to be announced “should be a wake-up call for the government”. The Morrison government is bracing for a grim economic report card on Wednesday, with the national accounts data set to be released. “Unfortunately the government just wants to pretend that everything is hunky dory in the economy, that they’ve got everything right, but all they’ve delivered is the slowest growth in 10 years, stagnant wages, record household debt, declining living standards, declining productivity, and the list goes on,” Mr Chalmers said.
