Numbers on placements for young people with disabilities in aged care not acceptable: health dept official

Commissioner Lynelle Briggs addresses federal health department official Dr Nicholas Hartland, asking if young people people with disabilities have been “forgotten” when it comes to helping them find more “appropriate arrangements” than being placed in aged care facilities. “I think progress has certainly been slower than everybody would have wished for,” Mr Hartland says. “I think the policy response of creating an agency such as the NDIS… is the right response and we are now in a quite a different situation than we ever have before.” Mr Hartland continues: “I think it’s fair to say that the 6000 is not acceptable and is a stubbornly high figure.
