Warringah MP Zali Steggall says it is "unprecedented that it’s so hot so early" and has called on the government to declare a climate change emergency. "It’s only a first step, what we really need is a plan to decarbonise to net zero by 2050,” she told Sky News on Wednesday. Ms Steggall said the government needed to listen to the emergency workers on the ground. "We had a number of fire brigade chiefs called out in April before the election... sending a warning that they didn’t feel we were prepared enough for, an increased threat as a result of climate change,” she said. “This isn’t just about me expressing an opinion, this is about listening to the experts.” Image: News Corp Australia
