More than 99 per cent of deaths from people infected by the coronavirus outbreak in Italy had pre-existing health issues, according to a study from the nation’s health service. Research published by the Italian National Health Service examined 355 deaths and found just three had no previous medical issues, making up 0.8 per cent of the figure. The largest number of deaths were among those with more than three existing conditions — making up 172 of the deaths, or 48.5 per cent of the cases studied. About a quarter of those who died from the virus had one other medial issue and another quarter had two existing diseases. Image: Getty
