Global shortage of protective equipment amid COVID-19 outbreak

The World Health Organisation says it is concerned there is a global shortage of protective equipment which is desperately needed for health care workers amid the coronavirus outbreak. The WHO have said a lack of masks, gloves and gowns has been caused by rising demands, hoarding and misuse and health officials have been left dangerously ill-equipped. Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said while COVID-19 spreads less efficiently than the flu, everything possible still needs to be done to contain it. “COVID-19 is a new virus to which no one has immunity, more people are susceptible to infection," he said.
